Ally's thoughts on her deprivation

Ally - "Berries taste so good! They taste like... sugar."
Me - "Yeah, they're like candy."
Ally - "Well, that's what we think, because we don't have much candy. Other people are like, 'They don't taste like candy at all!'"

Atta girl

Ally has wanted to do something to help Alzheimer's research since her Grandpa died. She plans to be a scientist and if it isn't cured before then, she'll cure it, but she knows that is a ways off.
So a few weeks ago, she emailed the middle school to get permission to have a bake sale, and she spent the last couple weeks baking chocolate chip and sugar cookies.
Today she sold $196 worth of cookies and donated it to research.
I'm grateful she could turn her grief into a positive action. I'm grateful to the people at Bayside who helped her. The principal and secretary were so kind to answer her email and get her a table set up. A few of the teachers were extra generous buying cookies and giving donations.

When we got home, Luke said, "Ally, I think Grandpa would be proud."

I think he would, too.

Helping Children With Hair Loss

About a month ago, Anna decided she wanted to cut her hair and donate it. Since Anna can be a little impulsive like her mother, and since she's always said, since she was three-years-old, that she wanted "long hair like Repunzel," we told her she could cut it, but she had to wait a month to make sure that was what she really wanted.

We scheduled an appointment right before her birthday, and she did it. The new -do is so her! We love it.

She asked me to measure her new hair. I told her it was about 8 inches. She said, "I donated 8 inches, and I kept 8 inches.  Whoever gets my wig will have my exact same haircut."
