Today's "Oh Anna" Moment

Luke, Ally, and Anna were all dressing like pioneers to play outside on the swings.  (Don't ask.  I don't know.)

After they found what they wanted to wear Anna reported, "Almost all my dresses are too small for me.  Goes to show how often I wear dresses!"

I said, "If they're too small, what are you going to do with them?"

"Give them to Ally!"

"Did you bring them over to her closet?" I asked.

"Mom, of course I didn't do that yet,"  Anna replied, "I'm Anna Melbye.  Lower your expectations."

Not spring

I take full responsibility for the blizzard today, the fifteenth of freaking April.

Not only did I post something entitled "Spring" a couple days ago, but I also made the mistake of deflating the sleds for storage and even went so far as to pack up some snow pants.

I apologize.

Spring!

It's the first day it's been over 40 degrees since we got back from Florida.  I think it hit 50.
It feels amazing!

Parental Controls

Luke wanted to download a game to play on my old iPhone he uses for Kindle and music.  I researched the game and decided he could give it a try.  When I tried to download it for him, a pop-up appeared saying he couldn't download the game because his phone had age restrictions set.

I tried a couple things, but didn't know how to bypass the age restriction, so I said, "Hmm,  I don't know, Buddy.  I don't know how to change that; you'll have to wait until Daddy get home and ask him.

He took his phone from me, and, looking thoughtful, he walked away.  He returned less than a minute later, and handed me his phone.

The screen to change the age restrictions was open.  "You can just change it here," he explained.

Uhhh.... good thing Dave set those age restrictions to keep Luke in line.

I need a hand

This guy is my new little buddy.  I watch him and his baby brother a couple days a week.

Today, after he went to the bathroom, he put his underwear back on all twisted.  I said, "Do you need a hand?"

He said he did.  So I helped him get his underwear on.  Then I started to help him with his pants, but he said he could do it himself.

A few minutes later, he exclaimed, "I need a hand."  I looked down at him and he told me, "I tipped over."

Fact.

It's simply a fact:  Everything is funnier in a Stormtrooper helmet.

Luke got a Stormtrooper helmet for Christmas, and since then, our world has changed. (Only a slight exaggeration.)

Kate will turn on music, and Luke will put on his helmet and dance, and I will be rolling.  I think it's partially his skinny little body below the giant mask, but I find it all kinds of funny!
There's a video I made of his dancing, and in the background all you can hear is me saying, "It's so stupid," between my hysterical laughter.
Also funny...
Watching a storm trooper on the video of your home surveillance system.

Florida Vacay

We drove down to Okaloosa Island in Florida for spring break and stayed in a condo.  It was tons of fun.

We got to go on a dolphin cruise.

The tides in the gulf was too dangerous to swim most of the time, but they had a couple great pools.

And we go to play on the beach and in the shallow water.  Dave and Kate worked on skim boarding.

Dave tried hydroboarding.

We all went parasailing!  So fun!
On the last day, we took a risk and went out in the waves.   They were perfect for boogie boarding!

So much fun!

Luke's teeth

My little guy has not been the toughest when it comes to his teeth.

He wouldn't wiggle them.

He wouldn't let Dave or me touch them.

His adult teeth would grow in all the way and the baby teeth would still be there, untouched.

The dentist had to remove the first one.

When it was time to work on getting the second one out, we were encouraging Luke to wiggle it.  He said, "Nah, I'll let Dr. Fischer do it."

I said, "No, you have to work on it."

He insisted the dentist could do it, so finally I said, "If the dentist has to do it, it's an extra thing not covered by insurance.  Mom and Dad will pay for stuff that you need to get done, but this is something you could do yourself, so if you want Dr. Fischer to do it, that's up to you, but you'll have to pay for it."

When Luke went back to the dentist, Dr. Fischer took out the second tooth.  When he came back to the waiting room with Luke, he told me, "For Luke, we can take his teeth out every time.  No cost!"

Oh, geez!  So much for my ultimatum.

But, apparently, Luke got sick of being outdone by his uber-tough-when-it-comes-to-teeth twin, because he toughened up and removed this one with a piece of floss when he was flossing his teeth!  'Atta boy!

The family who skis together...

Several years ago, Dave taught Kate to ski while I stayed home with Anna, Luke, and Ally.

Then the last couple years, Dave taught Anna while I stayed home with Luke and Ally.

When it was Luke and Ally's turn to learn, I didn't have any excuse, I mean anyone with whom to stay home, so... this year, I had to learn to ski, as well.
It went well other than the time I offered to take the twins down and tried to help the two of them find all their missing skis on a  hill I could barely ski myself.

It was so fun we went again a couple weeks later!

Ally!

There's only so much nonsense Ally can take.

When we arrived in Florida on spring break last week, I was really stiff after two days of driving, so I did some yoga on the beach.

Ally walked by, looked at me, shook her head and said, "Oh, Mommy..."

If she's this embarrassed by me at seven, she's going to have a lot of fun when she hits her adolescence.

Later that evening, Ally saw Bubby's stuffing sitting on the counter.  (Remember, she has always taken his stuffing in and out and twisted it around until it's dreadlocks of stuffing.  She has always referred to it as his "poopy.")  She turned to Bubby and said, "Oh, Bubby!  Your poopy is on the counter!?  You're disgusting."

Tell it like it is, Ally... even if it is telling it to your stuffed animal, after you left his stuffing laying around.

Ally lost her first top tooth on Easter on vacation!

Sweet Luke

A couple months ago, Anna and, later, Luke came down with influenza.

When Luke first felt sick at school, his teacher sent him down to the health office with a description of the problem.  She said he was "very tired, crying, and very hot."

Luke showed me the note and explained that he'd gotten sent to the office, because he was tired and "sweating."  Sure enough.  That's just what the sheet says.

The kid has an image to protect!
